Shia vote-bank in two constituencies of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly and one constituency of National Assembly from Dera Ismail Khan has attracted attention of major political stakeholders who are flexing their muscles to unite voters and get their votes for Shia electoral contestants in the elections 2018.
The constituency PK-95 Paharhpur and PK-97 City One of KP Assembly and NA-38 have strong Shia vote-bank; but, Shia politicians remain divided and are fielded against each other in PK-95 that has been noticed by other political stakeholders. Hence, efforts are being made to from an electoral alliance and persuade the rivals of each other to agree on one candidate for electoral contest to ensure easy ride.
Makhdoom Group, Sadat community and other Shia Muslims are major stakeholders of said constituencies. Makhdoom Mureed Kazim, Makhdoom Mujtaba and Najaf Ali Shah are rivals of each others in PS-95 hence efforts are afoot to sort out their differences and convince them that they must agree on single candidate and others should withdraw.
Sajjad Shirazi and Zaidi family are major political players in PS-97. They have also been contacted for consensus on single candidate.
Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal’s Shia leader Allama Ramzan Tauqeer contacted Makhdoom Mureed Kazim but he refused MMA candidature. Umer Farooq Miankhel of PPP is also trying to woo Mureed Kazim to join PPP and contest election as PPP candidate. But, he also disagreed with them too.
Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen leadership also seeks unified electoral strategy and consensus candidates in the elections from these three constituencies.”
