Shia Islamic scholars led by Islami Tehreek Pakistan leader Agha Syed Abbas Rizvi staged a rally that culminated at the Commissioner Office in Skardu where they presented memorandum of protest and demands to the Commissioner.
They made it clear that Shia Muslims must be granted their legitimate inalienable rights. They demanded that nobody should be allowed to deny religious rights to Shia Muslims and Shia Muslims must feel free to practice their creed and ideology in accordance with Quran and Sunnah teachings, interpreted by religious authority of their school of thought.
They said that all sorts of restrictions impeding the respectful travel of Shia Zaireen (pilgrims) from their native areas to Taftan border town must be lifted without any delay. They made clear Shia Muslims would not tolerate these impediments. They demanded all facilities that are required for safe and respectful travel up to Taftan must be provided by the federal and provincial governments and the local administrations.
They asked the Commissioner and DIG Police to forward their demands to the higher authorities. They suggested that Pakistan government should not take side and become impartial in Saudi-Yemen dispute and Pakistan should mediate instead of becoming a party to the conflict.
They turned down the inclusion of peaceful and law-abiding Shia Islamic scholars and notables in the fourth schedule of ATA and demand exclusion of their names from fourth schedule list forthwith.
They also backed the Chief Justice of Pakistan’s notice on Gilgit-Baltistan issues..
