AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Prominent Bahraini Shiite cleric Sheikh Khalid Fadhil al-Zaki was among a group of people detained by Manama’s security forces in the early hours of Friday morning.
The cleric is best known for his role as the head of the Sharia Commission at the Islamic Scholars Council’s Central Committee – a leading Shiite body that was dissolved by Manama’s courts in 2014.
Sheikh al-Zaki was reportedly arrested during a fresh wave of house raids targeting the Bahraini villages of Shakhura and Abu Saiba. Four Bahraini youths were also taken into police custody on Friday.
Manama’s security forces have made hundreds of warrantless arrests in recent months, often subjecting those detained to ill-treatment.
